Ever since leaving my hometown, I’ve been a globe-trotter.
I was born and raised in a small town in the north of Spain - a proud ‘Burgales’ - the son of two schoolteachers and far from the world of tech and finance. My curiosity to explore took me to study in the US and the UK, work in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, and visit over 40 countries. They say that travelling opens your mind, and has definitely shaped who I am today.
Working in a venture studio sparked my passion for entrepreneurship.
I cut my teeth as an operator at Neboola, once the leading venture studio in Spain, where I helped launch and internationalise several direct-to-consumer health and wellness startups. Experiencing the crests and troughs taught me how complex it is to scale a business — ‘Zero to One’ made it sound easier — and left me fascinated by those who succeed after years (or decades) of restless effort.
Prior to Atomico, I was a seed investor at Rocket Internet and a Management Consultant at Boston Consulting Group.
At BCG, I worked with the world's largest energy companies on their decarbonization strategies and digital transformations, fostering my interest in today's climate issues and the potential for software to transform large organisations. Working at Rocket Internet cemented my interest in tech investing, and gave me an inside look at one of the largest success stories for European tech in the 2000s.
My degrees are in industrial engineering and data science, but early stage investing taught me that there’s a lot more than numbers.
I've always been deeply analytical and motivated to find the optimal solution. It didn't take me long to realise that early-stage investing is miles away from a spreadsheet, more of an art than a science. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of data-driven VC, where Atomico is at the forefront, but conviction in founders is number one when it comes to investing and by far the best part of our job.
I stick to the basics.
Latin music fills my working hours, my jogs and even my naps. When I'm not cheering for Real Madrid to win another Champions League, I'm in my basketball or padel ‘therapy’ sessions. A round of pintxos with my family in San Sebastian and a sunset and drinks with friends in Formentera are my dream settings.
