Lakera Acquisition: making Generative AI safer for the world

Just over a year ago, Atomico partnered with David Haber, Mateo Rojas-Carulla, and Matthias Kraft, backing their vision to make Generative AI safer for the world. The pace of progress since then has been extraordinary.

In only twelve months, Lakera has become the trusted choice for protecting many Fortune 500 enterprises and leading tech companies from the emerging AI cyber risks. Their platform, Gandalf, has generated more than 80 million data points, providing unique insight into how to keep GenAI applications safe from novel attacks such as jailbreaks, data leakage and prompt injection. Lakera’s single-API solution protects across different LLMs, delivers real-time safeguards without latency, and is updated in real-time to stay ahead of evolving threats. The team has proven that securing GenAI requires an AI-first approach, not retrofitting yesterday’s cybersecurity tools.

Today, we are proud to share that Lakera has been acquired by Checkpoint. This is one of the largest transactions in the space. It validates both the magnitude of the challenge and the quality of the solution Lakera built in record time. It is also a milestone for Europe. Lakera’s success shines a spotlight on Switzerland as an emerging global power in AI, capable of producing teams that lead the world in both technology and impact.

For the founders, the Lakera team, and everyone who shared in their mission, this is a remarkable achievement. Atomico is proud to have been part of this short but transformative journey — and we look forward to seeing the impact of safer AI reach hundreds of millions more people around the world.
