Elias Ngombwa

Elias is an Associate on the Investment team in London. He concentrates on sourcing and due diligence for early-stage investment opportunities across both B2B and B2C, as well as portfolio management.

I started my career in strategy consulting, advising investors and fast-growing companies.

As a consultant at EY-Parthenon, I helped companies think through pivotal moments, such as accelerating growth or expanding into new markets. I also worked with investors to identify and assess promising companies in software, consumer and edtech. At Atomico I use this experience to find the next game changing companies and help them scale.

It's essential to keep your feet on the ground.

I'm drawn to founders who can simultaneously be very ambitious in their vision and stay humble. Strong ambition is crucial to thrive through the ups and downs of building a start-up, but humility is equally important. It enables us to learn from mistakes, listen to feedback and connect with others.

I strongly believe in technology’s ability to empower people, communities and organisations.

What most excites me about technology is its ability to empower, whether that’s enabling people and organisations to perform tasks without holding specialist skills, removing barriers to access, or allowing communities to connect more easily.

I grew up in a small city in Northern Italy and moved to the UK in search of new experiences.

Growing up in a small city, I didn't know much about disruptive technologies, but I craved dynamic, fast-paced, international environments. That's why I decided to move to the UK for university, where I studied Economics at Warwick and the London School of Economics. I love the buzz of cities like London, where people from all corners of the world and diverse backgrounds come and achieve great things. Technology plays an essential role in this.

I love learning about different cultures and exploring the diverse landscapes of our planet.

I took my first flight when I was 13 years old. Since then, I've really caught the travel bug! I love immersing myself in different cultures and exploring diverse landscapes. Some of my travel highlights are sailing in Komodo (Indonesia) and trekking in the Rwandan rainforest, and I'm always keen to swap recommendations (but you can’t read my travel diary!).
